The King of Helios Keep is close to death and invites you, the player, to visit him. Sadly, shortly after your arrival, the old King (who was the former Dunmer ambassador to High Rock) dies. His wife (a cousin of Barenziah, and niece of the former King of Mournhold who died under mysterious circumstances recently - which some say was due to Helseth) enlists the assistance of the renowned necromancer, Vorwoda the Black, to try to unravel a "secret" mentioned in her dead husband's diary. The player inadvertently discovers the two of them in a compromising situation around the King's coffin in the Chapel. (HERE IS A SHOT OF THE CHAPEL BEFORE THE COFFIN IS BROUGHT IN tfo.rh.rit.edu/esforum/oldie/mmm/chapel.jpg).
Guests (the participating actors and actresses) are invited to the King's wake but find the widowed Queen acting very strangely (something to do with the Throne Room which has been locked since the death of the King). (HERE IS A SHOT OF THE QUEEN IN THE THRONE ROOM BEFORE IT WAS LOCKED tfo.rh.rit.edu/esforum/oldie/mmm/QueeninThroneRoom1.jpg). It transpires that some of the guests also knew about a secret in the locked Throne Room, having been given a key by the former monarch and requested, like you the player, to investigate in the event of his death. The guests are shown to guest quarters on their arrival but, in the morning when they awake, it's discovered that the Queen's bedroom has not been slept in (SEE HERE tfo.rh.rit.edu/esforum/oldie/mmm/QueensBedroom2.jpg) and she is found murdered in the formerly locked Throne Room.
At the insistence of the Lord High Chancellor, Umrahel, the Grand Inquisitor, one Brav Oone whose connection with the Royal Household is the source of countless rumours (SEE HERE img17.photobucket.com/albums/v51/Bravo_1/Brav_Oone_Old.jpg) throws a magic barrier up over the Keep and all teleportation is disabled. The Lord High Chancellor presents you with the King's diary (which he found on the dead body of his Queen) plus the "Guest Book". All the evidence points to the Butler as having been responsible for the crime, even though Vorwoda the Black was behaving so strangely with the Queen. Well, was it the Butler, or Vorwoda the Black, or someone else? It's up to you to assume the role of "detective", select the most suitable sleuth as a companion, and solve the mystery or you will never be able to leave the Keep.
