What operating system do you use? My computer runs OS X or 10.3.3, the very latest mac OS. I do have lots of contact to XP, through school and whatnot. Much more than I would like!

Oooo, a Mac user! I cut my computing teeth on macs, and although I have have to phase them out, the decision to do so was over money issues. I needed a faster computer, my lovely G4 could no longer keep up with me when I 'played' Photoshop - I work very quickly when I get going! In order to upgrade, I would have had to buy a whole new mac which I simply couldn't afford, whereas, I could afford to upgrade a few parts of my PC which I was using just for gaming to make it faster for a fraction of the cost. So, I made the sad decision to switch to PC. I will always have a soft spot for Macs though.
OSX was an excellent OS, now I'm on Windows XP (not bad, but not in the same class!)

Although I'm not a mac user, I appreciate the fact that their OS is very good. Used to work at PC World, so I know the problems OSX had when it first came out - for example, manufacturers were claiming hardware was compatible with it when it wasn't. Actually, just like when Windows XP was released. Funny that.
I use a dual booted PC with Windows 2000 Pro and Red Hat Linux 8 for work and play, and a Windows 98 machine to surf the web (though I run the other PC through a proxy so that has internet access too).
I do this because I don't really like XP (again, from working at PC World - grrrrrr) and because no one is trying to find security holes in Windows 98 any more. So you stick a decent firewall on it and you're ok.
Don't use the Linux much though, as most of my software is on Windows. I keep all my important stuff on seperate partitions in case of disaster!
Bill Gates is a cheeky so-and-so, I believe certain features of windows (e.g. start menu) were direct rip-offs from Macs. The windows interface itself was ripped off from when he went on a tour of... Sun I think it was. Still, to the victor go the spoils.

The problem with XP is that when it decides to crash, which can happen when certain files are deleted or corrupted, there's really only one way to fix it. Stick the HDD in another XP machine and run chkdsk /f /r... I discovered that one, the other guys at PC World were most impressed!
Still, things like compatability mode were good ideas. Some of the integrated software like the CD burner I wouldn't touch with a 20 foot barge pole. Give me nero every time!
They had to intergrate a lot of stuff in XP because they realised other companies were doing very well from anti-virus software, firewalls, cd-burning, etc. They've acquired an anti-virus company I know that much, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that in the next version of windows.

I'm 'stuck' with Win98 and quite content thankyou!
The problem is that the OS offered by Carlos the Compute, my local, and only, computer shop, was a Portuguese version of XP when I upgraded to this box.
/ a little aside / The Portuguese pronounciation of X-P is shish - pee but a shishpe, (pronounced exactly the same), is Portuguese for a pigs trotter. Says it all really! / aside over /
I have enought problems understanding American error messages but translate those into Portuguese and I'm lost!

My family used to have a laptop and a desktop with windows 3.1. It wasn't a very pretty site. The laptop was about as thick as Harry Potter 5, and didn't even have a cd rom drive.
