Alright, this is basically a thread for you to voice your findings/opinions on what various things in the game were inspired by, for example:
I was sitting in Biology one day and we begin to discuss a creature called a gaur...I imedieatly raise my hand and tell my teacher that she must mean guar...she says that there is no such animal...thus I conclude that Bethesda adapted the GAUR to the morrowind animal, the GUAR...
Gaur- Most people know that cows are a domesticated version of the wild cattle that ranged through the Old World thousands of years ago. Wild cattle still run in small herds in the hilly forests of India, Burma, and the Malay peninsula, and these are the gaurs. Each herd is led by a huge old bull, with the finest horns, a sleek, dark brown coat, and white “stockings.” One of this animal’s distinguishing features is the saddlelike-hump on their back. Gaurs are huge animals; they can measure 2 m at the shoulder and can weigh 900 kg. They were once hunted by sportsmen in India as “big game” as was the American bison. Because of their size and strength, and since the Indian tiger is now almost extinct, they have few predators other than man.

Yeah. I was interested in some of the names given to places in Morrowind. Seyda Neen? What sort of name is that! But a lot of it looks like badly remembered Tolkein. Here's some: Belfalas -> Bal Fell Khand -> Khuul Pelagir -> Pelagiad Rhûn -> Tel Aruhn and my favourite Barad Dûr -> Dagoth Ur (both places baddies come from!)
There's a bit of old Scots there too. Ald is probably Old Tel is probably Tower but Bal is odd. Bal Fell, Bal Ur and Bal Isra don't seem to have much in common.
Anybody know why we have Tel Mora and Sadrith Mora?

I agree with you on the Tolkien stuff and you know my views about the staff of magnus.
This whole game seems a mish mash of all the fantasy books i've ever read!
It can't be easy to come up with an original idea though when there is so much fantasy stuff about.

There must be a Bethesda story behind that. A bit like the story behind the teapot in Max. That's another one I don't know!

I think it was the first model ever made or something, but don't quote me on that.

I was hoping for something *much* more exciting, but I expect you're right.
