Yes I see what you mean. I'll give it a try that way. The odd thing is that your first solution Cali *should* close that hole with a new face, (that is according to the help system!), but it clearly don't. Be back later.

Way Hey! Sort of done it!
Using ALL the advice given. Take original staff, collapse base 4 vetexes gives 1 vertex, move it up into middle of base. 4 triangular faces with normals pointing the right way. Failed abysmally when it same to adding two new vetexes so no hexagon but move the four corners of the base face into more of a square and then extruded.
Sort of head on a square batten but better than I had!
I can try my texture on this. If it works I'll post a picture.

At last. My books arrived from Amazon this afternoon. I now own 3ds max 4 Bible and The Visual Quickstart Guide to 3ds max.
Still useless at using Max tho!
Give me time, and patience!

How do you alter meshes in 3dmax?
I would download the tuts from 3dbuzz but I'm on the dreaded 56k.
It'd be great if anyone can help me, but if not don't sweat it.

Hi Androx, not 'spoken' before. I suggest you do what I did and lay your hands on as many tutorial files as you can. Start with this one: 66.106.110.151/Morrowind/Thanos_Tower/tutorials.htmlYou don't have to download those monster .avi files from Buzz. For a start they won't cover the bit you need unless you hang about on their site until you get the 'star'. That's a bit like getting the Nobel prize for dragon sexing! But I *do* suggest you bite the bullet and download Zenorf's Gladius building tutorial from PDS. (If you need a link I'll post one.) You are in very good company here, we're all at various levels of learning. I made the mistake of posting a question on the Buzz forum about creating mathematical models in Max. Sure I got some replies but 90% were way, way over my head. In the end I found that one of the Extended Primitives did exactly what I wanted. Not one of those bright b*gg*rs at Buzz had suggested that! ;D

I think I know how to make meshes to fit with BB! I think you put the body and the mesh of the armor/clothing you want to change on max at the same time. Then I think you right click on the armor/clothing item and click scale and play around with it till it fits. Then again I could be wrong(probably am)but I'm gonna try it out. EDIT: I tried it and it doesn't work!

Thanks! I'm gonna go try it right now! ;D
There's so much I want to do in my life right now too. It always seems like I'm never going to get it done. I guess the best way to do things is one step at a time, but it's so hard.
If it helps at all, max is a pain in the arse for me!

I've got another question(sorry!)
I was wondering if anyone can explain to me page 3 in the shirt tut before the two pictures?
I'm just not sure what to do there.
Thx for your time!

Well i just read it and i'm not too sure myself. I'm getting behind on max as i haven't had time to do any.
HHW and Mebyon seem to be doing a lot better though perhaps they can understand it.
I think Neuman's forgot that most of us are total novices, i need things clearly explained without the assumption that i know anything at all.

Can't help you mate. I'm still stuck on those shoes! Max crashes as I try to do the final export as a nif. Probably me, usually is!

Was i too optimistic about your new found skills then? ;D

Optimism is all I have left. The %$#%&/ thing crashes every time I try to export the nif. No error message except for some nonsense about "the program has committed a totally heinous crime in Windows and so we're going to pull the plug on you mate. Welcome to the desktop!" At least I now have it saved just before the export. Oh well, back for the fourth attempt!
If this one fails I'll make a note of the error message rather than smashing my head on the keyboard and post it here. The message, not the head or keyboard!

Still no joy! I'll ask Neuman on PDS.
