Here, I've finally gotten around to finalizing my face textures. Unless you guys notice some serious problem, I think I'm done fiddling with them. I know some things could still be improved, but given all the stuff I'll have to do in the following weeks, I don't think I'll be able to do it. if you guys want to go and correct any problems you find, then please do it (one problem I notice is that, if a bald head is used, the colors aren't quite matching up once the head is wrapped... not a great problem, and not a problem at all if the head ahs some hair in it.) I found out the mesh I was using has some weird mapping in it... because of it, the character's beard extends all the way to his neck (because the front of the chin, right below the mouth, and the lower part, which connects to the neck, are mapped to the same area of the texture)... also, despite a full mouth of teeth is shown in the texture, only one of the sides is used in the mapping, and then mirrored over. this made it impossible for me to use the cool blood spots and stains I was using in the teeth (since it looked pretty dumb when mirrored). well, that's it, I think. I left them as .psd because some of the DDS conversion causes loss of quality... it's almost as if it reduced the number of colors being used in the picture, creating visible color blocks. the onlyway I found to convert it to .dds with no quality loss was to save it as a 8:8:8:8 ARGB file, which, in turn, yelds very little compression benefits... so I just left it up to you guys to convert it in the same DDS compression standard you are using for all the other heads...

Thanks Solar. (On the latest batch of screenies, you've got your "greyer" hair, but not yet your "older" face). At the risk of being shouted down ( ), instead of Photoshop, I use another progam in which I don't seem to be able to make the appropriate dds conversion (can do most other conversions, however).

Well, the heads are coming along nicely.
Apart from some "upgrading" which is going on behind the scenes, there are only two outstanding:
Spirit Wolf (finished, but not yet forwarded) Vordowa (being prepared)
I think the big thing now is getting "costumes" agreed on, and for which Korana is now responsible as "Wardrobe Mistress".

In Paint Shop Pro I've found it worked best to open an existing .dds of the appropriate size and layout, paste your new stuff in the right places, and save it as. I just provided .tga's for the mod thought, as it was simpler for me and as far as I could see, rendered exactly the same ingame.

I know nothing about texturing, but Solar mentioned something that interested me. He supplied his "new" face texture in .psd format (from Photoshop). I opened this using my "second-rate" software PhotoImpact (which can't save as .dds) but I saved it as .tga format instead. This definitely does appear to give better resolution than the "standard" .dds format. Here is his "new" older head/face - looks pretty good, don't you agree Solar. If any of you have the higher-resolution .psd files and you let me have them, I'll convert them to .tga and replace your .dds files with the "better quality" material. (This, of course, will not appy to those of you who have already provided .tga files).

Here is a "not quite so close-up" shot of Ravyn Angel (in .dds format) to "offset" the close up which Cali will be posting.

Having now been "forced" into working with PhotoImage, I've followed up a point raised by Severian in connection with Fariel's face: He suggested reducing the gamma by 30%. In the photo-insert is Fariel's original (Helios Keep) face; the main shot shows her with the gamma reduced by 30%. She definitely appears less pale, but she still does not "look" Bosmer in my opinion (she's here Imperial). Any other suggestions?

Fariel needs actual recoloring....if you want to send her to me I can make her match the bosmer body a bit more...
ummm yes tga files DO have better quality than dds...the problem is- did you see how big that sucker was??? tga files can take up alot more space than dds.
