Did you do what i said about removing isolated vertices?
I've never had that error message before. Perhaps i shall have a go with it myself later just to see what happens.
I'm sorry i seem to have made this more frustrating for you, my work has ground to a halt at the moment as my sister's here and her kids keep interupting me.

Aha! guess what? I didn't reattach the polys of the cloned original, which is why it couldn't find the right number of faces and vertices! ;D Woohoo! That was really easy unless you did something boneheaded like I did! I also took your advice about removing isolated vertices just in case... You must be bored of me asking questions by now, but I have two more, so I beg your indulgence one more time: 1. The outputted image has a lot of different coloured triangles, which makes it difficult to flood fill with a paintbucket tool. Any good techniques for speeding up this process (tried magic wand but it doesn't always work very well)? 2. Now that I have my bmp, when I try to export to dds format the save dialogue (NVidia one with lots of options) appears but save is greyed out. I try saving the denim.psd I found in the Imageready only pattern folder (was going to see what it looked like as a texture), and that works fine. What's the difference between the two? I saved as a RGB 24 bit bmp, and if I save as an 8 bit one it won't even get to the Nvidia dialogue box. Strange, no? Family are great to have around! Hello to all of them from me. How many kids and how old? Do they call you auntie Cali? ;D [/tease mode]

Two kids 8 & 6 no i do not get called auntie, i don't feel old enough for that They've gone home now so i can get on with things again. I usually add a new layer over the existing bitmap to put my new texture on. Layers are great things for adding new bits as if you don't like it you can just clear or delete that one layer. dds files can be funny they will only accept certain sizes such as 128, 256, 512. The origianl pants were 512 by 512. Try making sure your size is correct then try saving again.

Genius! I'm familiar with layering so I'm surprised I didn't think of that... Nice age for them to be, not babies or teenagers... I have two sisters both older than me, one married, one with a significant other, but no babies yet. I was looking forward to being uncle rob, but no such luck yet. I was only kidding about the auntie thing, no disrespect intended ... Yes, the dds file was saving at 800x400 or something silly, while the PSD file was a perfect square. That'll be it then.

I didn't think you were being disrespectful. My sister used to try to make them call me auntie but they never have. I'm having another go at that gandalf staff

That looks like a really tricky one to do... I wouldn't know where to start. I suppose you can used cylinders and twist and bend them into weird shapes, but it would be easier to work from a hardcopy picture. Did you find one in the end?

Yes, just a shame i can't scan it in then let max make it for me ;D They actually developed a 3d scanner to help them make the cgi models in the films. They would make a maquette then scan it and let the computer build a 3d image. Perhaps i should have stolen it from the exhibition when i went last year

What a cool bit of kit! Must be good if it can tempt you into a life of crime... ;D Guess what? When I finished the texture, it applied perfectly to to flares I made. Then when I loaded up the CS they were up by the char's head again... To make matters worse, as soon as I finish using chilli, I saved the files for safekeeping. Except they wouldn't reload. I lost my modified mesh because I overwrote it trying to fix the problem. I don't think I'm cut out for this texturing malarky. Looks like I'm going to have to do it the old fashioned way. If I can ever get the pants to stop floating around the ceiling! [get down here, bad pants, BAD PANTS!] [It's the stress it's getting to me... ;D]

All sorted! Worked out the 'flying pants' problem, and for now I'm just using TExporter to do the preliminary bmp for texturing. Created a wild pair of psychadelic pants, but no screenshots yet...
I am a happy bunny! ;D

Good for you ;D Shall i upset you now? Neuman appears to be making a female pant mesh now, without the groin bulge. So it looks like you may have to do it all over again, unless you like women with bulging pants that is

Heheheheheh, while I was messing about with making the textures last night, my girlfriend was using the other computer for the internet. Her first remark was, "Why has that woman got a big _ _ _ _?" [feel free to fill in the blanks]. I think it's a great idea - You don't really notice things like that at first, then when you see alternative mods (like avanger's female mods) you realize how masculine they looked all along. Bring it on!

it will be nice to see seprate male & female clothing. I wish I had the skills I would start working on some shirts to go with the pants. once I get my laptop up and working, I'll start praticing.

Can anyone tell me what vertex weighting is/does? I tried cranking it up on a mesh, but to no avail! I'm so confused!!
