I know there are tutorials on 3dbuzz and on the pds forum but I need help on making BB compatible clothes/armor. I have trouble relating the other tuts to this stuff. I would almost need some one just to walk me through the process once. If this is too much to ask then just don't worry about it. Just thought I'd see if anyone would help.

First, hi! Good to see you... Unfortunately, I am only just starting to learn 3dsmax myself and am having particular problems with the new pants mesh Neuman released. If I figure anything out I will certainly help you! Stay tuned!

Oh, I forgot, are you wanting to do mods with 3d Studio Max, textures or the Construction Set? Depending on which it is, I may know who to direct you to....

Ah... in which case we're both in the same place. I think there's something weird you have to do with nif files before exporting (if you alter them, but I don't know what). I tried to change the BC pants and they wouldn't line up right in the game.
Still, hoping to find out what this is soon.

Thanks for the welcome. I'v been tracking the PDS forums for about 5 or so months now, but didn't register untill resently. I just remebered that I have it in a pdf version. I'll see if I can shoot it to you in an email when I get home. That should save us both a lot of typing. But then again that may be a good thing that way I actually learn something, so when I use the program, I can actually do something with it beside say "O what a pretty spline".

He Who Watches: Maybe, if it's not copyrighted, you can put the bible in your pdf frenzy

I would very much like a copy, yes. That would be of great use to me when I get stuck (which happens a lot). If you have already emailed it to me, my tetchy email account hasn't picked it up, but I can provide other addresses to send it to if needed. As to putting it on the pdf-frenzy page, I'd like to, but it's very likely it is copyrighted. Perhaps if I called it something innocuous, password protect it and PM everyone with the password - that should stop me getting any complaints from whoever wrote it! It'd be nice to have the pdf because then when we need to talk about it, you can post things like "on page 27 it says...", etc. I don't think it'd replace the need to discuss techniques and different approaches - I ask Cali stuff all the time because she's awesome! ;D

You are not crap, and I demand that you take some credit for your skills! ;D
Quick question for you about chilliskinner (still causing me problems...) - what angle do you use for detach? Default is 30, but obviously you get radically different shapes when you change it.
Also, if you're working with it using the nif files, what do you select to detach? Could you have a look in the select by name box and tell me what you see in there - that'd give me some good clues as to what I'm not doing right!

I have never changed the detach angle at all, as for the select thing i just press select all in the chilli skinner window not the select by name.
The select window will show all the different parts of the nif if you select one at a time it will give you an idea of which piece is which. It may be that if it's already detached that is why it won't work, choose a piece then go into editable mesh and click attach list, attach everything to make one whole object then try the skinner. I am totally making this up as i go along, but that's pretty much how i do everything ;D
If your still having trouble maybe you should try the normal method, not that i know how to do that but the skinners tutorial does say i think.

On last try before giving up, as the tutorial makes the manual method sound very difficult and time consuming! When I import the pants nif (my modified one or Neuman's original, works same for both), there is the groin, tri groin and the components for the biped which can't be seen but are there nonetheless. I run chilliskinner and select all. Then I click autodetach and it says "This operation requires that only one poly be selected". It obviously doesn't like our groin and biped components, so I delete these leaving tri groin. I click select all which now works. I now click autodetach, then clone. Now I click unfold polys but wait! I get error messages: "Object 01 will be distorted if unfolded, force unfold?" so I click yes. This affects objects 01, 02, 03, 07 and 13. I now click Flatten polys, optimize polys, arrange polys, attach polys, and apply planar map with no trouble. Next I unhide everything and the clone reappears. I pick source as the flattened poly (Object01) and the target as the cloned original (CloneObject01). Now I click Morph Source to Target. Bad Chilli! Dirty Chilli! The following error appears: "Objects cannot be morphed together, they have different numbers of vertices or faces". And that is as far as I get. Now, if your experience of using the program is different, we can compare notes and work out where my process differs from yours. ;D
