Ok, just for Craig, a section to discuss ideas, problems, techniques, etc in the Construction Set. I'm not on the board a lot at the moment, so please help Craig wherever possible!

Done the game.
Actually I think the CS is as much fun, but then that leads to Max and textures which, in turn, lead to maaaaaaddddnnneesss.
Craig, are you sure you want to start down this road?!

Yeah Craig, I mean it can become a very painful road...damn GMSTs and MAX...grrrrrr...
Well. if you're up to it, be my guest...
anyway, the CS is fairly easy, but as Mebyon so truthfully pointed out, it can lead to madness...even in pockets...
Photoshop is I think $30..? Max is about $3000...yes three thousand american...
...but then there are other way, but let's no discuss them here, as we are not pirates...

I use PSP all the time and yes it's a lot cheaper ;D
I got the trial version thinking i'll do as much as i can in 30 days then that will be it but then i found i missed it too much, the other paint programs just didn't have all those handy extras i'd got used to.
With all the stuff i've done it was money well spent, cost me £85 from amazon.

I have Photoshop but find myself using PSP anyhow because it's easier to use to me I guess because I am used to it. Either will work so just get whatever you have access to or can afford. Some people might have access to Photoshop through their university or whatever, if you don't, then PSP is definitely a lot cheaper and just as good as far as I am concerned.

Has anyone tried the windows version of GIMP? That's what I've been using, but I'm cheap! It's been a couple of years since I used Photoshop or PSP but I think that GIMP can do most of what those programs can. At least it can if you add some of the plugins, and you can't beat the price, Open Source (read free).
I'm running XP and haven't had a problem with it yet!

I've tried it but it's hard to get used to a new interface for me. As it is, I still use Paint Shop Pro for most stuff since I am most familiar with it. I guess I should keep at GIMP though. It just seemed to me that it had separate windows open all over the place and I didn't know what the heck was going on heh.

I had gimp before i got psp, the main reason i changed was because i couldn't open a dds file with it. Although that may have changed now.
It used to crash on me a lot though which was damn annoying if i was in the middle of something. I had the trial version of psp first and had no intention of buying it but when it ran out i found i missed using it too much. I don't think i could go back to using another program now.

I was using version 1.2 but I just installed 2.0 with the plugin to put everything in one window.
It works, kind of. It opens in one main window that is maximized. If you minimize the main window, everything shrinks down to one item on the taskbar, but if you resize the main window, the multiple windows remain. There are fewer windows though. What used to be 2 or three windows is now combined into 1. You can still get a lot of them open, but the main ones seem to have been merged.
I never had a crash with 1.2, we'll see about the new 2.0. So far it's been fine.
There is a plugin for opening the .dds files. It's for the 1.4 version I think. It might work with the 2.0, I'll try it if I can figure out how to uncompress it. The file extention is .gz I don't know what it is and my extractor doesn't recognize it.
Oh well, more surfing!
