I've just found this site :- games.groups.yahoo.com/group/NIFLA/They have plugins for download to inport and export .nif files using Milkshape Just thought someone might be interested (Unless you've all got 3d Studio Max . . . . . .)

You do have to "Join this Group" but you can choose not to receive any E-mails from them if you like.
I should point out that I haven't actually USED these plugins, so their scope may be very limited - still, they're bound to do SOMETHING useful !

Hmm, I didn't realize there was a nif exporter for Milkshape and I'm even a member of that group! Admittedly, I don't check it much though. This should quiet down people who complain they don't have the money for Max. I actually have Milkshape but just use it as a converter to export stuff to .3ds for import into Max. Since I've already learned Max more or less and that took me some time, I'd rather not start from scratch, but this is great for someone just starting to get into 3D.

Just an update really . . . .
Ive been using the plugins for a few weeks now, and I'm impressed. I've successfully altered several hairstyles, weapons, and armor pieces. The only real problem appears to be seemingly random rotations upon import, although I think this is something to do with the way milkshape handles axes(as in plural of axis, not chopping weapons!). The only real drawback is a lack of support for animation, so talking, blinking heads are impossible as yet.
Otherwise, if anybody wants to try their hand at modelling then this is the place to start. You can even try Milkshape out as shareware for a limited time.
Get Modelling ! ;D

Well yes, it is a little bit cheaper I think.
Although I don't know how much MAX costs, it's probably more than the $25 / 25 Euros that MS3D costs!

I've just emptied my piggy bank and bought Milkshape, and the bill came to 20.13 Euros instead of 25!
That's about 14£. Must be something to do with the common market ;D
