I'm sure some of the posters here already know about it, but here's a link for those that don't: www.zyworld.com/redwoodtreesprite/FreeGraphicPrograms.htmIt has a lot of links to Morrowind utilities on the second half of the page, but there's links to Irfanview, ImageForge, the GIMP, DXTBmp, Blender and Gmax, as well as links to quite a few tutorials on many of the programs. At the bottom of the page are some of my favorite free texture sites. Enjoy! :)

Good to see you, welcome to the forums (again lol)! Love that page... Also, Regan mentioned this a while back, has anyone tried it? (I have not touched MAX/3d modelling in a looooong time) PS - Irfanview kicks arse!

I think the NIF plugin for Milkshape is well worth adding to your page, although Milkshape isn't technically free. Also, I found this page: www.worldzone.net/games/azrael_dark/PROJECT_ZERO/devtools.htmlMainly 3D modelling links, some dead, but still a valuable resource with descriptions of each program. See what you think.

Lots of nice utilties and programs there! TEXSYNTH seems particularly neat. I had to do a google search to find the website for that, which I'll try for some of the other interesting programs.
I do have plans to eventually do a "Modding on a Low Budget" page.

Just read up on that milkshape site...so basically you get a 30 day trial and then you have to register it for $25? ...what if people just reinstall the trial version?

A lot of these things do something to your computer so it knows if your trial timed out, photoshop did that for me, i had the trial version but didn't like it so i uninstalled, then i wanted it again for looking at a dds file, at that time i didn't have a proper graphics program, so i reinstalled and it said the trial had timed out I was annoyed as i hadn't actually used the thing. Anyway i then got psp instead as it was cheaper ;D

Just confirming what Cali said, that Milkshape does something underhand and knows when it was first used. Probably in the registry, as reinstalling windows will allow you another 30 days. Rather too much trouble considering the registration fee.

And as for Max!
THAT does something really sneaky as even a re-install of Windows didn't let me get back into it, EVER!

Actually, I heard Milkshape imports thing much more nicely (and exports); the only downside is that you cannot do animations or particle effects...

Maybe I need to re-visit MilkShape then. If it remembers how long ago I installed it then it'll probably shout at me. Oh well, 21 Euros sounds cheap enough. My problem is time! Like lack of it. Pity I can't buy THAT for 21 Euros!

I think I'm buying Milkshape for sure! I made my first unaided mesh in seconds! ...with none of the head-banging of MAX! Exporting was a synch and importing was just as simple...I never was going to animate/do particle effect things so this is just the program for me! It's firendly, easy to use (didn't know any of the controls, but I was welding in seconds!), none of the hassle I had with MAX and is worth every penny! Thank you Regan for enlightening me of this wonderful tool (and Tocatta for showing me how *awesome* this thing really can be!)... redwood, for someone just starting out, this is TEN TIMES EASIER than MAX...it is really almost as fun as photoshopping! I recommend dl'ing this tool (and the importer/exporter), and trying it out for yourself...then if you like it (like I do), BUY IT!

I plan to. Though I made a mistake and installed the trial before I was ready to spend a bit of time trying it out. So it's long expired. But the price is certainly right, and I do want to get to modeling eventually.

I've just e-mailed the creator of Milkshape telling him if the NIFLA plugins, as there is no mention of them on his site or even on the milkshape forums. So hopefully more people will get to know about its NIF capabilities. Oh, and when you register you get free upgrades to Milkshape 1.X and discounts on other Chumbalum software (only a 1 man outfit).
BUY IT! ;D

...it seems to be importing the meshes inside out (I didn't notice with the other mesh because it was a tube so inside out the texture was the same and so was the tube).
...is there a quick fix or something?
