I'm making some Japanese fabric textures. I have a nice embroidered effect on parts of a texture. And would like to take those embroidered parts and layer just them onto a satin or silk texture, to get an embroidered satin or silk fabric texture. I know how to make areas of a texture transparent. But I'm still a complete newbie when it comes to working with layers in Paintshop Pro. This is the tutorial I've been using for reference: www.zyworld.com/redwoodtreesprite/EldrScrlFrm/Alpha_DDS_Tutorial-Nigedo.htm

Well first of all the section where he decribes the icon is a good place to start Once you have an image to make a new layer just go to the layer menu and choose new raster layer. When the window comes up you can rename it alter the transparency or change it to a different type, lighten, multiply, dodge etc. I normally just leave it on normal to start with as you can also alter all of these in the layer window as well. Now if your image is a background and not a raster you can convert it by right clicking on the layer name in the layer window and selecting convert background layer. Now you will be able to move this layer up and down the pile and will also be able to give it transparent areas, if it's a background then anything you remove is filled with the background colour you have chosen in the materials section. I only tend to use the layer menu for making a new one as everything else can be done in the layer window. Well that's a brief description anyway, anything else you need to know just ask

In the CS section, near the bottom of the page - Actually I could send you (RTS) a stripped down PSP file from my black silk dress to better illustrate what I mean

Just found it, wasn't that incoherent ;D I've told you before i have a job to explain what i do sometimes, a lot of it is trial and error and fiddling with settings and such, to explain how i made one item i'd have to remember what i did first and half the time i can't Having an example to look at like your psp file is a good idea

It is difficult to explain sometimes, I had an awful time getting my tutorial to be comprehensible - I'm not quite sure I succeeded I'll strip the PSP file down later, got even more transplanting to do now Argh, I've drifted again
