Cali. Time sorted. (I never thought of decimal hours until tonight!)
Bravo. I'm sure you're right and that I'm going to have to do 'the deed' on this machine. My problem is that this lump of kit is absolutely central to my keeping in touch with a whole load of peeps in the UK, France and Holland, not to mention you good folks as well! I really don't want to take any risks with the modem connection or the graphics drivers. I think that I'll wait until I have an expert within calling distance just in case it goes pear-shaped. (Talking of pear-shaped. Bit like having a baby I suspect, OK at home if the midwife is there!)

Can't comment on the baby thing, wouldn't know.
How comes you know so many people in different places, have you moved around a lot?

This h'yar is the original rolling stone 'mam! Just stopped here as it's warm, cheap, the people are great and I can get totally rat-arsed for about £2 if I feel like it!
/philosophical side-note It's very strange. People who live on the West side of places are much more laid back. Think of the Irish compared to the Brits, the Californians compared to the East Coast Americans and, here, the Portuguese compared to the Spaniards. In every case the West coast dwellers seem to have more fun, they laugh and drink and generally misbehave themselves! /end philosophical side-note

The Portuguese go to the Algarve for holidays as well. They say that it's not the same as Portugal! The other thing about these guys is that most Portuguese don't live in Portugal. They live in London, Paris, all over. So everybody has a relative who probably comes from where you're coming from.
As for living on the East Cali. The whole thing is relative. You're more fun loving than the Northern Dutch belive me! Hang on, a corpse is more fun loving than they are, so that's not saying much! In any case I remember a really dreary day in Felixstowe, that's East of you isn't it?!

Why is it that I always ask such fatuous questions! Thanks Hopper! Actually I know exactly why I'm asking this stuff. I'm still not happy about the moment I type in 'Format c:' at the dos prompt! I'm scared the machine, dreadful as it is now, will wind up sitting there just getting warm thinking it's a toaster or something. What happens if I've forgotten to save a vital driver? Why don't I just sell my body, (for what it's worth), and buy a new machine..........! Why is it I ask such fatuous questions...................! Don't worry there is nothing to it as long as you have your 98SE boot disk, 98SE install CD and drivers it's a breeze takes about an hour. Not to mention that a clean machine runs a 100% better. BTW your not using a dell, gateway, HP or compaq. They send recovery disk with their machines, in which case the process is alittle bit differant. Sorry I would have metioned it earlier but it slipped my mind, since I still do it the regular way.....speaking of formats mine is way past due. finish up my current project and it's bye bye trashy computer ;D

If you knew how long it took to get the ADSL working the first time........
Carlos is due back today so I'm off to the town for some lunch and try to catch him. If he agrees to do the first bit I'll bite the bullet.
A breeze for you Hopper, is a raging gale for us wimps!

Oh second part of your post.
Home made computer built by afore said Carlos out of bashed out dustbin lids and house wiring! Actually Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz with 512 MB RAM and GForce 4 128Mb graphic card. I think I'm going to ask him to install a new hard-drive at the same time which means I can get rid of the partition on the existing drive. All depends on two things. Cost and cost!

that actually sounds like a decent computer there Mebyon. Formating should get rid of the current parition. and if you can install morrowind then you are more than capable of formatting and installing windows. It can't be as bad as my first time formating.....I formated then relized that I had no operating system to reinstall....lol....And so the great hunt for dos 6.22 began..... ;D. Cali did you mean me or Mebyon?

Ah well Cali. I don't work. I got made redundant from an exceptionally well paid job in the the UK. I used a chunk of the money to buy this place, (which I've done up and now generates a small income but as I don't pay tax on it either here or in the UK that's all I'm going to say!) Anyway there's just about enough coming in to live on and I get the odd training or database job to eek it all out.
That's whay I live in the cheapest country in Europe!

Sorry about that, i won't tell any official people about you then If nothing else i'm sure the weather must be better there, i got soaked this morning and my hayfever has started already so i'm pretty fed up with england myself right now. I should live in the ocean somewhere away from all the pollen. Probably get eaten by a shark knowing me

Poor soul! You'd not like it here at this time of the year. We have pine trees all up the hill behind us and they're shedding what may be called shed-loads of pollen! I had to use the windscreen washers to shift the stuff before I could use the car this afternoon.
Apart from that the day has been a cracker! Not yet shorts weather but definitely tee shirt time.
Cheer up, the English spring is on it's way. The swallows and cuckcoos have arrived here from Africa so they'll be with you in about three weeks.
