Phillip Pullman Dark Materials series.
"Any good?"
Hard to answer really, I found the story a bit irritating at first as I couldn't really identify with the pre-pubescent heroine! I suspect he started to write a kids book on the lines of Harry Potter and then the story ran away with him. But yes, it's great story and by the time it gets into it's stride you'll have trouble putting the book down!
The three books are: Northern Lights The Subtle Knife The Amber Spyglass
Enjoy.
On another subject. (Is that OAS in forumspeak?)
Cali. I've been admiring your staff and I'd like to have a crack at making one. The problem is that I don't want to either tread on your toes or make this into some sort of competition!
With your OK here's my starting point form "Sourcery" by you-know-who.
"The wizard stood up, carefully laid the sleeping baby down on the thin grass, and picked up a long staff that had been lying there. It was made of a black metal, with a meshwork of silver and gold carvings that gave it a rich and sinister tastelessness; the metal was octiron, intrinsically magical."
Natch it would have to have knob on the end as, as we all know, "A wizard's staff has a knob on the end." Tra la la!

I should put you in bravo1's new version of the peanut gallery for that comment, except for the fact it always makes me laugh especially when Nanny Ogg sings it and the one about hedgehogs I have no objection to you doing that staff at all, if i did i never would have explained how i made it.

Thanks Cali. Next project for me then. I've been working on a texture for the Subtle Knife blade. It's really very difficult to visualise what the texture will look like when it's applied. Makes you realise what a star Fariel is with her BB textures. (Oh, and Cali with her clothes!)
No Hedgehog or Wizards Knobs comments forthcoming, I don't want to be put into the punishment cells!

Here's the final 'Elf Sticker', thanks for all your help and encouragement. I gave up on the texture for the blade. I think that'll have to wait until I get my tex skills up a tad! I've dulled down the hilt and used a more varied texture for the pommel. I think I've missed a vital bit of info though. HeWhoWatches, you said something somewhere about choosing 'TES Shader' in Max. I can't find anything like that, am I missing a plugin? After all the whole purpose of this shennanigan was to add stuff to Morrowind! My ISP seems to be having a bit of a bad day. The line is soooooooo slooooow. I'm going to get off line and play in the 3ds sandpit for an hour. Check with you tomorrow.

Looking good, pretty soon you'll have Mebyon's elf-sticker imporium. My buddy tells me once you figure out how to make make weapons, they take no time at all to make, just getting them into the game is what becomes a pain.

Cali. I can't get it into Morrowind!
Am I missing a plugin? HeWhoWatches mentioned, (somewhere, I can't find it now!), something about TES Shader in Max. I use the default Blinn shader, is that OK?
Working on Ipslore the Red's staff texture. Dark metal with gold filligree writhing shapes. I'll post a wip and ask for comments later if that's OK with you guys.

It's not so much the tes shader as the nifexporter plugin do you have that? if not get it here www.elderscrolls.com/index.php?url=/downloads/download_redirect.htm&bg=05 in the utilities section. There's a link for the dds file as well here. The tes shader seems to come with it. choose export then netimmerse (nif) when the options box comes up just leave it as it is and click ok. I'm sure you know the construction set bit but if you get stuck just ask.

Gotit. Thanks Cali. I've found the TES Shader option in Max. I'll let you know how I get on.
One thing has just occured to me.
Scale.
I just made the knife not caring how big or little it really is. It's going to be fun if it turns out to be 50ft long! Yeah, I know, I'll have to get back into Max and scale it down but it's going to be amusing to see what a monster I have made!

Didn't I see somewhere a conversion rule for Morrowind inches to Max units? Or are people in Morrowing real-life sized?
