Well, it looks like I'll have to make the buffers transparent if I don't want to have to overhaul the stairs majorly (and I like them as they are). Regan, with this alpha enabling, how does it work? I mean, what type is it (there are type of alphas that disappear underwater, there's another that disappears when you layer more than one alpha'd image and look through the 'gaps' ...Cali knows more about them than I do, but do you know what kind/what characteristics this alpha you can get with MS portrays?)

Basically from what i understand of it, if you have pixel shading and are using standard alpha it dissapears under water or when layered over each other. If you use forced 1bit alpha it dissapears with chameleon spells or in fog. Not sure if it does the layered bug as well or not. I think whatever is used has certain problems and it's more a case of deciding which is the least annoying for what you want. To me i don't mind clothing dissapearing underwater as it seems like you got undressed before getting in, then when you get out voila!! your dressed again as if by magic But then i don't have pixel shading anyway

You CAN'T do this in MS3D, you'll have to take it back into max to give it an alpha channel (Unless of course you follow the hex editing instructions and have a masochistic nature ) Wouldn't it be easier to alter the steps?

Well, unless you know some magic tricks, even ]i]SELECTING[/i] those rungs is going to be a trick (the entire ladder is one group so no easy way there, have to go halfway through the mesh at an odd angle and select each vertex). Also, I really like how the steps look and don't want to replace them, but I do want to try to move those rungs just a tad, but I'm also afraid that with the slope, nothing short of a buffer will help...

3 options, as I see it: 1. Scale steps, may look distorted. 2.Select only the 'steps' group, move out of ship, edit and move back. 3.'hide' bits of ship in the way and edit steps, select vertex, move etc. Send me the 7zipped model if you like and I'll have a look, did bethesda really make steps you couldn't climb.

Well, physically you can climb it, but we all know that in MW people climb stairs without lifting their knees more than they do when they walk... I'll play around with it some more when I get home... EDIT: forgot to say this in the other thread, I love the avatar, simple, yet clear and concise...

Isn't it for the PC, this ship? Who'll see him/her floating up the steps? Buffers to you too, with knobs on

Yes, but MS is finicky with buffers, as we all know...

Milkshape is finicky with far too many things, I can't import anything with a 'NiSpecularProperty' whatever that is. does anyone know where I can find Brash's teddybear as a basic mesh? It's not MS it's the importer but it's still mildly irritating, I've a mind to ask NIFLA for my money back . . . . Oh You seem obsessed with buffers, Bravo, did one bite you when you were a child

No, it's just that buffers are a necessity when dealing with complex meshes... ...NIFLA...money!? ...I though they were supposed to be free? NiSpecularProperty? ...no clue what that is... MS is nice, but the NIF plugin is far from finished...
