Not exactly a console but my first one was a pac man table top game, lasted all of a week before the joystick snapped and it was totally buggered, my fault as i was just too hard when it came to changing direction as if pushing it harder would make it move quicker so i wouldn't get caught

I've played a few games over the years...
I played: Age of Empries Red Alert Red Alert 2 Age of Kings Sim Copter Age of Conquers Morrowind (Just the original, and with a shitty graphics card, so I didn't enjoy it much) Starship Titanic Jedi Outcast Escape Velosity Nova
The ones I'm playing now are: Jedi Academy Call of Duty
I have a few others installed, like Battlefront and United Offensive, but I don't play them.
When I first got Windows 95, I got a bunch of games included with it, but I dont think any of them are worth mentioning...

Sort of off-topic but not extremely so Why are most console games in 3rd person? I mean, leering at Lara probably started it but there are some where it's not really as suitable as 1st person. I don't have a console but all the PC games ported over are in 3rd person, whereas virtually all pure PC games are not.

I don't understand why those games just can't give both options, like Morrowind does.

The games I've played over the last year or so include:
Morrowind (obviously!) Half-Life (completed) Counter-Strike GTA Vice City Fire Warrior The Simpsons Hit & Run Nightfire Doom 3
And the games I'm currently playing are:
Half-Life 2 (excellent) X2 - The Threat Dawn Of War (on loan)
I don't mind third person so much if the controls are well thought out, but too often they aren't. A choice is always better...
Most games I really get into can be modded (although I don't spend much time playing or modding these days).
I think the first game I really played to death was called Treasure Island on the Commodore C16 Plus 4. I made a map of the whole game but never quite beat it...

Not really on topic, but anyway. [Rantlet] New copy of PC Gamer . . . . Demo of HL2 ;D Install. . . . . No HL2 program, exe or anything. Steam added to startup list without asking ( I HATE that) Steam runs in background, connection menu pings up every few minutes. Wait till late for cheaper connection. Start steam - says 'Steam - Updating' . . . . . . . . . 1 hour and 12Mb later, STILL updating. I feel like putting the autocensoring through its paces. [/Rantlet] Talking of 3rd person (weren't we?), just tried the demo of Silent Hill 4. Odd, character models and texures excellent, but the decor looks as though Konami used a 256x256 bmp to do all the walls. Surely they could update the textures for the PC. And the default controls are abysmal, moving left or right shuffles your active weapon, really handy when your confronting those licky dog thing monsters. Reassigned, but although you can wander about your tragic little flat in 1st person with mouselook, the rest is some sort of 'which way did the devs decide this key would move in this area' Good sound effects though. Steam has finished updating Apparently I have to create an account. For a single player demo Does anybody know of a good racing game, I've tried NFS but I didn't really love it, the most fun I've had was the Midnight Club 2 demo. So an 'urban freestyle' racing game then EDIT: Not a totally useless request, I'm hoping a bit of good quality 'virtual' acceleration will dissuade me from RL speed. Caught for speeding = 90 euros, can you believe it?

So the Demo isn't a demo but a downloader for the demo Don't really play racing games i only got NFS underground as it came with my ps2

Me neither. But I DID get a 90 Euro speeding fine in Spain, I thought it was because I've got Portuguese numberplates; they let all the Fangio Spaniards through. (No, Fangio was an Italian wasn't he?!)

NFS2 Hot Pursuit is rather fun...esp if you'd like to smoke those cops...;D
Also, Midnight Club is fun, though challenging on some parts (READ MEMORIZE THE TRACK AND DRIVE LIKE YOU'RE OUT TO KILL YOUR OPPONENT).
If you like FPS + Racing, Mafia is a really good game; you can get it used for 10$ (if used, open it IN the store and check it out). Mafia has 20 missions which range from assassination to escort to a race; you drive quite a bit during many missions, even in an actual 1930s Grand Prix! After you beat the game, you unlock Free Ride Extreme where you can unlock some more 'interesting' protoype cars. There's also Free Ride in which you can drive around all you want; beat the game and you can adjust levels of pedestrians, coppers and traffic. It is set in an early 1930s mix of San Fransisco, Chicago and New York...;D
It's quite fun and the missions to unlock the prototypes are quite interesting, harder than the game itself IMO...
EDIT: Did I mention you can put your gun out the window and shoot back? It's a lot like GTA3, but the plot itself is more interesting/realistic and the attention to detail is wonderful! Especially if you love old cars...

I've just been reliably informed by my mother that Fangio was Argentinian and was a bus driver until he turned to motor racing at the age of 40 There's a 3.3 Gigabyte Valve directory on my disc, which I think you'll agree is highly unlikely to have been DL'ed in the past hour. Patches, copy protection, and all that probably make up the 12Mb. It was my first speeding fine in 10 years of driving slightly faster than I should have, so I'm not that annoyed. but 90 euros is 90 euros.

Makes sense. Maybe he moved to Argentina from London?

Thanks Bravo, I've got a demo of NFS:HP, but unfortunately I discovered the CAR.INI files, so I was running a race lightened Flat 12 Carrera with 8 gears ;D Those pesky cops didn't stand a chance. I think I might try to find a secondhand/budget copy of MC2, the adrenalin rush was extremely effective, especially playing CTF with Nitro pickups. Of course, I'll have to get an analogue controller, you can't corner smoothly with the keyboard. I'll also try and get an english copy of Mafia, the french version was even buggier. I'm sure it's on the 2 for a tenner shelves by now HL2 report: After clicking 'play Half Life 2' another updater came up, filled up to 90% in ten seconds, then said 1 second left for quarter of an hour. Now it says 'Ready to Play in 1132 minutes 34 seconds. You apparently have to do this with the full game as well. do valve think everyone has broadband?

That's bad When i get a game i expect it to work out of the box not have to download another huge file just to play it
