Yes, Greece won, they beat the Czechs in extra time!
We're in the finals against Portugal, kind of poetic that it comes full circle like this (Greece beat Portugal 2-1 in the opening game). I hope we can beat them again, but this will be an entirely different match.
But regardless, last night we won, and the celebrations here were massive. The Greek community of Pretoria nearly burnt the city down. If Greece win the cup, then they will have to cancel the Olympic Games after the celebrations in Athens.
EDIT : fixed some spelling, one too many Jack and Limes.

Not being a football fanatic, I have a question. One of the Greek players got a yellow card last night and the Portuguese commentator, being very partisan, said that that was a good thing as he wouldn't be playing Portugal if Greece won. Is that right? I thought the yellow card just got carried over until you got two and then got chucked off the pitch.
Anyway, I now have a problem as to which team to shout for! I've been cheering Greece on ever since England got slung out!
July 4 will have fireworks here too this year! ;D
Damn! Smiley Central has packed up. Imagine firework smiley here please!

Go Greece! Go go go! I'd never have thought that the Greeks would do it, being the one of the absolute outsider-teams. I supported them from the moment on the Swiss go kicked out of the cup.....honestly my fellow countrymen have never been really good at football.

My countrymen were never good at Soccer either, so it is ver good for us and quite an achievement to make it to the final.
If a player gets two yellow cards (not neccesarily in the same game) he is not allowed to play the next game. To yellow cards in the same game and he is sent off and he has to miss the next game.
EDIT: and it is good to hear we have the support of so many.
It was really nice when after last nights match, at the after game interviews the Czech Team coach said that although he was sad and upset for his team, he congratulates the Greeks and wishes them all the best and will support them in the final.

Very entertaining match - the Greek defence was rock solid, and you could see it wearing the poor Portuguese guys down with frustration as the match went on.
Given the odds of this being the final result, and the potential winnings for anyone who placed a bet on it at the beginning of the tournament, I expect there'll be quite a few bookmakers crying into their empty cash registers tonight ;D

Deep gloom pervades Portugal! Actually not so! There are parties all over the place. The Portuguese just love a good cry anyway, especially if they've already bought the wine and bacalhau! I agree Turjan, the Greeks played really well and deserved the win! Odds were 150:1 at the start of the contest so there must be some really happy fans out there! Mind you, one English chap said that he thought the referee was rubbish. He didn't penalise a load of blatant fouls so the players just tried to see what they could get away with. He was also German and the Greek coach is German. Load of b*ll*cks. The Greeks played the better game!

Greece, European 2004 UEFA Champions! It really was an excellent match!! The Greek captain, Zagorakis, took Man of the Match, and my guess will also take player of the tournament. My congratulations though go to Nikopolidis, the Greek goalkeeper. Had an excellent tournament and made a couple of match saving saves. For those who have no idea, Greece were really the underdogs in this tournament, before it, Greece had never even won a single match in an international tournament (UEFA, FIFA World Cup etc.), let alone take home the cup. We were celebrating all through the night here, I can just imagine the rest of the world (like the million plus Greeks in Melbourne), let alone Athens!
