Well i made a whole island once that covered at least one whole cell and parts of about four others, like they say size doesn't matter ;D mine didn't float but with exteriors it really doesn't matter about the size. I would say if anyone wanted an intergalactic battleship that would be Bravo1 I reckon a huge static would work okay. Why, are you gonna try to make one?

Am trying, just for fun. Problem is that I really don't know what I'm doing half the time! Max seems to have a will of it's own tonight. *If* I get anywhere I'll post a pic.

Well good luck then, max always seems to have a mind of it's own to me.
I'm off to bed so i shall see what you got up to another time, btw what happened to the screenshot of the staff? didn't you finish it?
If your anything like me probably not, i jump from one thing to the next all the time, i never finished that island i mentioned. I'm amazed at myself for sticking with these pants so long ;D

Staff is in pieces after being savaged by ChilliSkinner! I'll get back to it some day! I've made the land but I can't get the texture to stick! Here's a screenshot, (reduced by 50%): As seen from the towers of Pelagiad. Bed for me too. Textures can wait until tomorrow.

You guys are definately my heros =) Well I dont really want my island to float around (would be lovely, but not by a long shot necessary). With a static I cant make a lake tho can I?
What I could do however (as I believe mentioned by one of you) is make the top of it an exterior disconnected from MW with a lovely lake and everything I want, Landscaped and everything with no levitation... For the lower view I could use a static with a lovely texture and some vivec waterfalls and mist or some such with no levitation so that you can not look at the top =)
Problems with above idea... For the landscaped top, the water wouldnt have anywhere to go as I dont have any walls around my island or anything, as well as I dont know how I would deal with falling off it.
That static looks cool Mebyon, but would be a little small for me I think.

oh christ. I had the biggest post ever just made and I just lost it. So Ill go with a nice smaller post on it....
THE VISION
Alright... Well try this again. This place would be really inaccessable. Hard as heck to get to. Underneath the floating continent would be a huge icy tundra with a few small villages scattered about. Mostly just barren tho. The villages would be for the most part inside caves due to the inhospitability (sp) of the island, but some would be on the coast where it was a little warmer. For housing I'm thinking of retextured ashlander huts. Also everything would be in shadow of the floating continent.
Above you you would see the bottom of the huge island floating in the sky, but you wont know how to get to it. (Im still figuring out how Ill deal with it.) When you get to the top of the island, youll see lush green fields and it will be beautiful. Houses will be a mix of redoran and Hlaalu but retextured to a sort of stony white, with blue trimmings and gold leafing. Everything will be very aristocratic and proud, and there will be a few islands floating above the main one, where even richer people will live.
Im still working on what the point of it will be, but Id like to have it to do with helping the poor people, who I think will be outcasts. I dont remember quite what the situation in Chrono was which is nice so it wont influence me to much, but I think it had an interesting situation.
One more thing on the inaccessability of this area... I think it would be neat to have no travel options to it. I think it would be really neat to have to actually travel and explore to find it, and I am hoping it will be quite non-linear. I think it would be great if some people couldnt figure out how to get up to the top for quite some time. Id also like all the people to be at least somewhat important.
However... This is quite ambitious given that I have no experience and little time, so after I start it I may get bored and leave it by the wayside. But anyways, what do you think?

I like it but it is rather ambitious, hopefully you won't get bored of it. There's another book called Dragon Wing, it's book one of the Death Gate Cycle, that has a world sort of like you described. It has the low,mid and high realms all made from floating islands. The low realm is very inhospitible and they live underground, although they are dwarves so i suppose that's normal . If i remember rightly the high realm was covered by a large dome like a forcefield and was a paradise. It's been a while since i read it now. I do remember there was a forest of crystal trees in the mid realm, that would look cool but not sure if you can do crystal trees Are you planning on building it above existing land or are you going to make a new place? Mebyon, i like that. Looks sort of eerie against the night sky.

I dug out an old mod i made for my island so i could take some screenies. What i made was a hall of elements with four areas you reached using switches to transport you. This was the hall of air, it's basically an interior cell with a staircase. As you can see it's a lovely sky at the moment when you look down it's just foggy so there's no problem with not seeing the ground as you can't see anything.

That is such a great staircase! OK. My paltry offering, (which is a tenth of what you're thinking of Tier!) Managed to get the texture to stick on the pancake. Her's a new shot of it from a tower in Pelagiad. Also flew up there and had a poke around, (and, yes, fell off!). Here's the view of Pelagiad. Now I've got this far I'd like to press on with it. Like five times the size and start adding houses and trees. I've got a seriously bad line today so I'll spend my time offline. Post when I've something to show you!

Looking good ;D I've never seen a red sky like that in game before.
Did you go splat when you fell off then?

Nah! Amulet of Levitation, managed to get it round my neck before I hit the stonework! Silly of me to take it off really!
I'm back with my seriously sloooooow connection as I've made a pig's ear of the island. I decided to see how big I could make it so I went for about ten times the original size. It brings the Editor to it's knees! Beinb the sort of idiot that I am I carefully saved the monster version over the original and, to be frank, I can't be arsed to go back into Max and shrink it down. I am NOT having a very good day today!
Maybe tomorrow..............
I'm going to go and read a book. Good Omens, Corgi edition, page 277 footnote Cali! OK, OK, off topic! Slaps own wrist before someone else does!

I'll try and keep this simple;
1st-great idea, sounds cool
2nd-CALI, the picture you showed with the floating castle is possible because, as some1 mentioned, there is a certain floating rock in Vivec which you could duplicate and enlarge by scale. What you CAN'T do is to make it fly around, technically you could, but it would all have to be one mesh, and the scripting would get complex, next, if you want to go IN it then you're screwed because door markers cannot have scripts so you could go in, but have to come out in a stationary place. Also the scripting gets harder and harder since you would have to script the door to follow you...unless you have a hardcore scripter then it is rather hard...even a hard core scripter would be troubled by it...(how I know, well I contacted a scripter about making a flying airship, hmm, that didn't take off...excuse the pun! ;D)
3rd-I think that the whole interior cell idea Cali had migh work, and Mebyon's mesh would work quite nicely, think about it, a buch of those in Cali's cell= a CLOUD CITY...now where's the Millenium Falcon (could not resist!)

It would be over top of new land I guess. I dont know any land that would work otherwise.
For the interior idea, how would I make it so if they jumped off they wouldn't fall and see a huge pillar with a city on top? =)
Its to bad to hear that the huge static brings the CS to its knees... I think mine would have to be bigger... Perhaps I could make it a few little statics poking out of the clouds... I dunno.

That's the odd thing about it i walked off the staircase and just kept going ;D yet the cliff racer i killed fell down but only so far.
You could easily put an invisible wall around the edge, i have one around the door it's just marker boxes again, handy things those.
